I love my job, but it gives me all the head pain. You know what helps? Manhattans. Hands down, my favorite cocktail, but I’ve never tried to make it at home. Let’s be clear, what I’m presenting here is puhrrrettty good, but if I had to pick the best Manhattan that I’d want in my mouth, the #1 spot clearly goes to LawBird. I’m also kinda a bitch for Matt the Miller’s Matthattan (where I p-much stole the idea for my signature drink name). O.k., so do you want this in your life? I hope so because then we can be twins. It’s one shot of whiskey/bourbon. Evan Williams is my go-to. I did some research a few years ago, and the internet told me that this was a good lower-level brand. My liquor store guy also told me it’s older than Jack Daniels, so somehow that makes it 2legit (but not 2legit2quit). Get a cute glass, put 2-3 cubes in there, then put in a shot of your whiskey-bourbon of choice. I like to do a level shot, THEN do what I call “a pinch to grow an inch” which is just a liiittle more than a shot. Next up is a “dollop” of sweet vermouth. I use Martini and Rossi Rosso. Is it the best? Probably not. Does it do the trick? Absolutely! I don’t really have a measurement here, but you want to do a tip-pour-untip. If you spilled a little, you probably did it correctly! Almost finished! We need some bitters! I use Angostura. Dave and I had a tiny bottle that we moved from one home to another for the last 10 years, so I bought a new bottle. For this we do a “shake, shake, shake”. We haven’t even gotten to the best part of the Shanhattan… The cherry! Sure you can go buy the TOTALLY WEAK cherries that are gross and look like they need a transfusion or you can go for something like Tillen Farms Bada Bing Cherries. It’s like the silver lining that surrounds the silver lining. Stir that shit with whatever is in the drying rack, and thank me later!
